NEW YEARS GREETING
I wish to extend New Year’s greeting and good wishes for 2014 to you all.  I hope the year ahead will bring you health and happiness and I pray for God’s Blessings on all your work and undertakings.  May God guide and direct all our efforts during the New Year.  I pray God’s Blessings on all families, and I pray especially for children in examination classes and those who are seeking employment; may you all be successful in your endeavours.  I welcome all who have recently come into our community.  I wish those people and their families happiness and success in our parish.  With God’s help and guidance may the year ahead be a good year for us all.                                           Fr. Pray for the repose of the soul of Fr. John Fennelly who died 23 December last.  He was born in 1925 and ordained a priest in 1996.  He worked as a curate in Athenry and as a confessor in Knock.  He died in Our Lady’s Manor, Dalkey, Dublin.

I want to thank most sincerely the many people who helped with the Christmas Liturgies; all the people who decorated the churches, Granlahan and Ballinlough both inside and outside; all who took part in the liturgy itself; those who organised people – adults and children to take part and finally our organists and members of the choirs.  It all helped to make Christmas a meaningful celebration of the great feast that it was –the Birth of Christ.  Many thanks to you all.
Wednesday next 1 Jan 2014 has been designated A World Day of Prayer for Peace.
I wish to thank everyone who contributed so generously to the Christmas collection for the support of the priest of the Parish.

Ballinlough:  Sincere thanks to the people of Town South who looked after the flowers during the month of December.  Would the people of Town North and the Avenue look after them during the month of January.
Granlahan:  Our gratitude to Group C who cared for the church during the month of December.  Would Group D look after it during the month of January 2014.  Group D:  Noreen Coggins, Mary Patterson, Mary Raftery, Mai O’Gara, Ruth Sullivan, Angela Keaveney.

A very special Gathering in Ballinlough on New Year’s Eve as we celebrate a very successful year.  Dancing to Jivin Ivan in Campbell’s Lounge, light refreshments will be served.  Ring in the New Year on the square with live music, ringing of bells as we watch lanterns rise into the midnight sky to welcome in 2014.
Cluster Choir.  Choir practice in Ballyhaunis Parish Church at 11 am. on New Year’s Day.  Mass will be at 12 noon and all singers are welcome.

Sincere thanks to all who attended the Senior Citizens’ party in Ballinlough on Sunday last, also to all the sponsors and those who supported it and specially the committee who organised everything so well.  It was a great memorable day, enjoyed by all.

The Ray Prendergast Memorial Card Game in aid of Lohan Park Group Residence.  Brickens Community Centre St Stephen’s Day at 3 pm.
Congratulations to the Committee and everyone involved in the opening of the children’s playground in Granlahan.  The playground is a marvellous facility and will be of tremendous benefit to the area.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Tea Party at the White House recently.  We raised €2945 for the Astro Turf pitch.
Lough Harps 40th Anniversary and Gathering Celebration is on Saturday 28 December in the White House Hotel.  A buffet will be served at 8 pm. followed by music by the Heebie Jeebies.  Tickets are €20 and you can contact 087 2605003 to purchase.

An afternoon of prayer in honour of St John the Evangelist to celebrate his feast day on Friday 27th December at Knock Shrine.  It commences with Adoration at 4 pm. and concludes with Holy Mass at 5.15 pm.  The afternoon will be conducted by Fr. Thomas Surlis, President, St. Nathy’s College.  Music Ministry by Louise Irvine.
