Tough match for Granlahan

Granlahan NS travelled to Oran today to take on Ballymurray. It was a tough match - but granlahan played well. Ballymurray were ahead by 7 points at half time. Within 10 minutes of the second half - Granlahan managed to level the scores with some excellent work from all the team.Ballymurray fought back to gain the upperhand and win the match by 6 points (25 to 19). They will go on to the semi final next week.

Mass on Kiltullagh

On Sunday 30th May at 4pm the annual Mass on the hill of Kiltullagh took place
A group of children and parents from the school in Granlahan walked roughly 2 miles from the church in Granlahan to the church on Kiltullagh. Many of the children were sponsored - with all funds going towards the school in Granlahan.
A large congregation attended the Mass - which was blessed by brilliant weather. The Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Joe Feeney and Fr Tom Cummins. Several pictures can be found below....

Cloonfad National School victory

A friendly Gaelic Football match was played in Cloonfad today between Granlahan N.S and Cloonfad N.S. Cloonfad were in the lead for most of the match but Granlahan came back near the end to draw level about 2 minutes from the end. Cloonfad scored a last minute goal and a point to win the match.
Granlahan have a match on Monday at 11.00 am in Oran against Ballymurray. With the girls allowed to play - hopefully they will do a bit better on Monday.
Well done to Cloonfad.

New Housing project in Ballinlough

A half a million euro housing project began this week in Srah , Ballinlough. A combined effort from Roscara Housing Assoc based in Elphin, The Brothers of Charity and Roscommon County Council. It will house 6 mentally disabled people and should be completed by early 2005.

First Holy Communion in granlahan

Congratulations to Sean Burke, Edel Coffey, Liam Kearney and Thomas Klboyle who made their First Communion on Sunday May 16th. We hope they and their families had a lovely day.

New starters in granlahan school

Children for next September's infant class will begin school on June 21st - for a taster session. Enrolment forms available from the school.

Summer Holidays

Granlahan school - 6th class will break up on Fri June 18th - the rest of the school will finish for the summer on Thur 24th June.

Granlahan School Closed

The National School in granlahan will be closed on Thurs June 3rd 2004 and Fri June 4th for Curriculum planning.
It will also be closed on June 7th for the Bank Holiday and on June 11th (Fri) Election day.
I am sure the children will not complain!

Granlahan school beaten by Carrick

A "local derby" match took place today at 11.00 at the Michael Glaveys GAA pitch. The boys Gaelic Football team from Granlahan National School took on their Parish neighbours from Carrick National School in Ballinlough. It was a close match - played in the hot sun which took it's toll on everyone. By half tme the two sides could not be separated - the points were shared. A hard fought second half saw Carrick get the advantage - and by the end they won by 2 goals. A good match to watch - maybe some County players for the future in there somewhere ?

Community Games

The annual Kiltullagh parish community games athletics events now takes place in Cloonfad (Granlahan sports field needs grass cutting) . It is on Wednesday evening 25th May. Events from under 6 to under 16 with the winners going through to the Roscommon finals.

First Communion

Congratulations to the following children from Carrick NS, Ballinlough and Ballinlough NS who received their First Communion in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballinlough on Sunday, May 9th. Carrick NS: Danika Gallagher, Elaine Neary, Emma Waldron, Niamh Grennan, Claire Grennan, Sarah Flynn, Martin O’Gara, David Freyne, Cian Cunningham, Darren Maloney, Stephen O’Connor, Padraic Connolly, Owen Fraughen, Daniel MacDermott, Ronan Murphy, Josh Piercey. Ballinlough NS: Josef Loughran. Following their First Communion a special party in their honour was held in the Parochial Hall, Ballinlough to celebrate the occasion. Many thanks were expressed to the parents, teachers, the Parish Priest and pupils for all their involvement in preparing the children for their First Communion and to the parents of last year’s First Communicants for organising the party for the children.

Inter Schools GAA

Carrick NS had another fine win in the three to four teacher school GAA tournament. Carrick NS have now beaten Lisacul NS, Tarmon NS and Castleplunkett NS. Carrick NS are now into the last sixteen of the school league. Good luck and keep it up. Parents please support.

Hill of Kiltullagh

The annual pilgrimage to the Hill of Kiltullagh will take place on Sunday, May 30th with Mass at 4 p.m.

Childrens Treasure Hunt on 12th June

A Childrens Treasure Hunt followed by Disco will be held in Michael Glaveys
Community Centre on Saturday 12th June between the hours of 3.00 p.m. and 5.00
p.m.. with disco afterwards.
Children are advised to get their teams of 2 ready for the event.
It is promised to be good fun and remember the team who finishes the Treasure Hunt in the fastest time and collects the maximum number of clues will be deemed the winner. The entry fee for the Treasure hunt will be €5.00 each and that includes admittance to the Disco where prizes will be
presented.
Prizes for first, second and third and the prizes will be Smyth Toy Shop Vouchers.
Younger children are not being left out and it is also planned to have
events for younger children on the day also.
