Carrick N.S. Parents Association Annual Family Fun day will be held in Lough Harps Soccer Pitch, Ballinlough Sunday 25th May 2008, 2pm-6pm (weather permitting). Lots of Fun & Sport for all ages also a Schools Soccer Blitz (to start at 12.30), Bouncing Slides/Castles, Face-Painting, Tombola, Races, Novelty Events, plus HB Ice-Cream Sunday party to raise funds for Down Syndrome Ireland. No Entrance fee, Donations optional.

Nursery Thymes Playschool, Cloonfad enrolment night Tuesday 10th June @ 8pm. To guarantee a place for your child for Sept. 2008, at least one parent must attend this meeting.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Delia Fitzmaurice, Clydagh, who was buried during the week.

Active Retirement Association: A meeting will be held in The White House Hotel on Monday 19th May @ 8pm to form a branch of the Active Retirement Association in the Ballinlough/Granlahan area. The regional organiser for the Western region will attend. All ladies and Gents over the age of 55 are invited to come along.

Retreat in the Pastoral Centre Achill. From 1st-7th June Sr. Marie Carr and Sr. Cathleen Calvey of Loreto Sisters, Saggart, Dublin, and daughters of Mary & Joseph, Tallagh, are offering the opportunity of a directed retreat in the Pastoral Centre in Achill. The retreat is open to Laity, Religious and Priests. There will be time for prayer, reflection and each person will have the opportunity to reflect and talk to one of the directors each day. Our sincere thanks to all those who attended the Parish Pastoral Council meeting on Wednesday evening last.

Next Sunday is Palm Sunday, the palms will be blessed. This is the beginning of Holy Week, as Jesus enters Jerusalem. It is in Jerusalem that he will suffer his passion and death.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Eileen Porter, Tarmonbarry, who died during the week.

St Patrick’s Day this year is celebrated on Saturday 15th Mar. There will also be a mass on Mon evening 8pm for those who wish to mark the Feast day. This year it is not a holiday of obligation.

“A Moving Experience” Enter into the drama of Holy Week by experiencing the Passion Play in Ballintubber Abbey Grounds on Mon 17th, Tues 18th & Wed 19th Mar @ 9pm. The drama lasts for one hour and there is no admission fee. Donations gratefully received.

Training for members of Parish Pastoral Councils will take place throughout the diocese. The venue for our meeting is The Community Centre, Granlahan. Members of the Pastoral Councils from Ballinlough Parish and Dunmore Parish will meet there on Wednesday 5th March 8pm-10pm. All members are requested to attend.

First Friday – As Friday is the first Friday of the month, the Priest will visit the sick and housebound as usual.

Lough Harps FC will be registering players in the under 12, under 14 and under 16 age group on Saturday 8th March from 3pm to 4.30pm at the Club House. Registration fees of €50.00 per player or €70.00 per family will be payable on registration. A parent must attend with any player registering for the new season which is expected to begin in early April. All are welcome. Under 8 and under 10 players will be registered later.

To mark the 30th Anniversary of the foundation of Ballyhaunis Community School, a C.D. of Liturgical Music will be recorded by the school Folk-Group on 1st March. Proceeds from the C.D. will go to Mayo/Roscommon Hospice and The Irish Association of Suicidology. Donations are welcomed for the costs of duplicating the C.D. Diocesan Implementation Group – February Update
Youth – A weekend workshop for interested young people held in the Killary Adventure Centre led to the formation of a Diocesan Youth Council. The eight members chosen at the weekend will be joined by 3 nominees of the Archbishop. The first meeting of the DYC will be held on Feb 21st.
Pastoral Ministry – An information evening for parishes interested in developing Parish Baptismal Teams will be held in Knock House Hotel on Feb 20th at 8pm.
Pastoral Councils – The first phase of a Diocesan Pastoral Council Training Programme will be presented to all Pastoral Councils on Wednesday March 5th at 15 venues throughout the diocese.
Liturgy – The process of recruiting and employing a Diocesan Liturgical Resource Person on a two year contract basis has begun.
