Michael Glavey's under 12 victory

GLAVEYS U-12 VICTORY

The Roscommon U-12 Division 2 League Final replay provided some outstanding fare in Castlerea on Saturday afternoon - Nov 6th - before Michael Glaveys edged home over Western Gaels on a scoreline of 2-13 to 2-10 in a match that again went to extra-time.When the teams met in Hyde Park two weeks earlier, they finished level at 2-7 to 1-10. The scene was thus set for a rousing replay and neither team disappointed as they gave a wonderful display of inventive football in a highly sporting encounter.Western Gaels were two points up at halftime but fell three point as Glaveys surged into the game on the restart. In the end, however, it took a point by Andrew Glennon to bring the match into extra time.Glaveys regained the initiative to go three ahead at the interval in extra time but Western Gaels showed true spirit in battling back to secure the equalizer with two minutes to play. Then came the winning goal from Killian Fitzmaurice as Glaveys celebrated a famous win and Western Gaels hearts were broken in the drama of the closing moments.

This was a game that both teams can be very proud of and one which provided splendid entertainment for the followers of both teams. The goal scorers for Glaveys were Killian Fitzmaurice and Thomas Gallagher. The return of Stephen Comer, who was out of the first game through injury, proved a huge bonus for Glaveys and he had an excellent game, notching five points in the process. The Glaveys backs were exceptionally strong and needed to be to cope with a lot of pressure by the Western Gaels attack. The player of the match award went to Finbar Cregg from Western Gaels who gave an outstanding performance on the day.

The victorious Glaveys team was managed by Padraig Beirne, Liam Browne, Michael Kelly and James Hussey.

Players: Ryan Cummins; Cathal Kelly, Damien Burke, Dara Burke; Conor Hussey, Shane O’Malley, Michael McDonnell; John Finan, Gerard Fagan; Andrew Glennon, Thomas Gallagher, Gary Patterson; Killian Fitzmaurice, Michelle Neenan, Stephen Comer. Subs used: Brian Neary, Amy Brady, Seamus Burke

Video Launch in Cloonfad

Cloonfad man Pat Kearney will see a dream come true with the ‘premiere’ of his hour long film “A Wedding in the Making” which takes place in The Griffin Inn, Cloonfad on Friday night, 12th November at 9.30p.m.

The project has been several months in the making and has been guided by Pat Kearney, the man who wrote the story and pioneered the entire project through vision and commitment and a lot of incredible hard work. This is Pat’s first venture into script writing and the subsequent ‘transfer’ of the story onto video. Shot on location in Cloonfad and Kiltullagh, it is very rich in the elaborate ‘sets’ which include beautiful horse-drawn caravans that combine to lend an air of authenticity to the story. All the actors and actresses are local with the exception of Tom McHale and Vincent Moylette from Foxford and Paddy Joe Tighe from Kilkelly who fits the role like a glove. A central strength in the production is that the local broad regional accent has been used to fine effect throughout, thus giving it an earthy and authentic ‘feel’.Pat Kearney’s talents have not been confined to writing the script and helping with directing the production. He has also made several impressive “props” and other essential items which add enormously to the impact of the various scenes. He further succeeded in re-opening the old forge for this production.
Those taking part in “A Wedding in the Making” are Margaret Brennan, Mary Kearney, Vincent Moylette, Tom McHale, Pat Kearney, Caroline Gormley, Michael, John and Catriona Gormley, Tom Moran, Shaun Kearney, Sharon Kearney, Kerry Walsh, Joe Sharkey, Michael Jennings, John Walsh, Gerry Cummins, Dominic Murphy, Michael Higgins, Paddy Joe Tighe and John Dowling. The director is Tom Burke while the project was filmed and edited by Gerry Geraghty. The end product, which is available on video and DVD, reflects a huge local effort and is quite a remarkable undertaking for a small community. Copies will be for sale on Friday night.

A substantial sum from the sale of the film will go towards the Kiltullagh Mentally Handicapped Association. The compere for the launch night and ‘premiere’ is Gerry Glennon from Mid-West Radio, himself a local parishioner. A full house is expected to see the new home grown ‘film stars’ around Cloonfad!
