Be our companion on life’s pilgrim way.

May your Holy Spirit inflame our hearts, enliven our hope and open our minds, so that together with our sisters and brothers in faith we may recognize you in the Scriptures and in the breaking of bread.

May your Holy Spirit transform us into one body and lead us to walk humbly on the earth, in justice and love, as witnesses of your resurrection.

In communion with Mary, whom you gave to us as our Mother at the foot of the cross, through you may all praise, honour and blessing be to the Father in the Holy Spirit and in the Church, Now and forever.

The Granlahan Annual Cemetery Mass takes place on Monday 18th July at 8.30pm. There is usually a very big gathering for this mass. It is a lovely gesture bringing the mass to the people who have gone before us, marked with the sign of faith. These people were very faithful to the mass all during their lives, now that they have gone to God we offer the mass in the very place where their mortal remains lay.

Lord Jesus Christ, you came among us through Mary’s ‘yes’ to God. Help me this day to say ‘yes’ to the Father’s call to me, so that in my words and actions, in times of work and leisure, you can be present in me through the power of the Eucharist to heal, to comfort and to sustain.

Formal Launch of the International Eucharistic Congress 2012

On Monday 7th March last, the formal launch of the International Eucharistic Congress 2012 took place in the RDS in Dublin, The Eucharistic Congress Bell was a focal point at the launch. Starting on St Patrick’s Day, the bell, which has been fitted into a carrying frame, will be brought on foot from diocese to diocese by teams of volunteers.

The bell, a reminder of the traditions of St Patrick’s Bell, will represent the call to faith, to prayer, to conversion and our vocation to service and to mission. It is hoped that it will be a focal point for gathering and for prayer, in cathedrals, parish churches and places of pilgrimage between now and June 2012.

The bell was blessed by Archbishop Martin in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral in Dublin on17th March. It was then brought to St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh, from where it officially began its pilgrimage journey. Speaking at the launch of the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin, Fr Kevin Doran, Secretary General of the Congress explained the context of the bell:

In our preparation of the Eucharistic Congress, we have been asking people to think of it as a journey rather than just an event. For this Congress we are asking people to engage in an interior journey of renewal. That is where the symbolism of the bell comes in. The bell will go on its journey around the country, but it will invite all those who hear it to begin an interior journey of renewal.

The Cemetery Committee are organizing a clean-up in the cemetery on Thursday 21st July at 7pm, in preparation for the annual cemetery mass, Please support their efforts by cleaning up individual family plots removing all rubbish and debris from the vicinity of the cemetery.

Granlahan are holding their Annual Sports Day on Sunday 24th July at 3pm. Final meeting to coordinate events will take place on Tuesday night at 9.30pm in the community centre. We would appreciate any donations or sponsorship for the Sports Tombola. Please contact Carmel Brady or Mary Morgan.

Ballinlough/Granlahan Heritage group are sponsoring a public showing of the award winning film “The Pipe”, (An Píopa), The White House Hotel, Fri. June 3rd @9pm. Anyone interested in issues relating to the impact of industrialisation, commercial development, planning decisions on small rural communities are asked to attend. We hope the film will stimulate discussion & debate around these issues on the night. Adm. free.

Ballinlough/Granlahan defibrillator group wish to thank everybody who participated in, and contributed to, our annual fundraising walk on Easter Monday last. Thanks to the Hillside Tavern for their premises. The defibrillator group wish to invite people to train in CPR. New guidelines are now in place and instructors are now trained in these guidelines. We urge people to do this training, It is a worthwhile course and a life saving skill. People in the community are required to keep the project alive. Contact any of the committee members if you are interested.

At the beginning of the New Year I offer good wishes to each and all for serenity and prosperity, but especially for peace. Sadly, the year now ending has again been marked by persecution, discrimination, terrible acts of violence and religious intolerance.

I offer heartfelt thanks to those Governments which are working to alleviate the sufferings of these, our brothers and sisters in the human family, and I ask all Catholics for their prayers and support for their brethren in the faith who are victims of violence and intolerance. In this context, I have felt it particularly appropriate to share some reflections on religious freedom as the path to peace. It is painful to think that in some areas of the world it is impossible to profess one’s religion freely except at the risk of life and personal liberty. In other areas we see more subtle and sophisticated forms of prejudice and hostility towards believers and religious symbols. At present Christians are the religious group which suffers most from persecution on account of its faith.

Respect for freedom of religion fosters inner/personal and societal peace.

I wish to thank all the people who took part in the Corpus Christi processions in Ballinlough and Granlahan. Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock:- The Tuam Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock will be on Sunday, May 2^nd. The ceremonies commence at 2.30pm. The Archbishop will lead the pilgrimage.

Pilgrimage to Malta :- A Tuam Diocesan Pilgrimage (with spiritual director) to Malta will take place on July 6^th for 7 nights. Details and booking forms from John B. Mc Loughlin on 093 28337 or from Christine on 051 396448.

Each year Knock Youth Ministry holds a youth festival (18-35). The theme for this years event is “Walk by Faith” and will take place 25-27^th June. The programme incorporates talks, workshops, prayer and a friendly faith atsmosphere for all. The cost for the weekend is €70 which includes accommodation, food, etc. For more details contact Helen Toner at Knock Youth Centre, on (094) 9388100.

The annual Easter Commemeration for County Roscommon is this year being held in Granlahan Cemetary at the grave of Miko James Keane. Parade will form at ball alley and march to cemetery preceded by the Raheen Pipe Band. There will be tea and sandwiches available in the Hillside Tavern Granlahan. A wreath laying service will take place at the monument in Ballinlough on Easter Sunday at 12 noon.

Stations:- Loughill, Carrick East, Coolatinny and Clydagh stations will take place at the home of Johnny & Nancy Flynn, Loughill on Tuesday 6^th April at 10.30am.

Ballinlough / Granlahan Defibrillator group are holding their annual sponsored walk on Easter Monday, 5^th April at 3pm, from Granlahan church car park to Ballinlough via Grange and Carrick. Everybody welcome to take part in the walk. It is an enjoyable and healthy event in the community. Refreshments in the White House after the walk.

Diocesan SafeguardingChildren policy

The revised Diocesan SafeguardingChildren policy is now complete and will be launched at seven centres throughout the diocese over the coming weeks. Each parish and church area is asked to ensure that at least six people attend this launch and introductory presentation. This number should include four members from the Parish Pastoral Council and anyone who has contact with children in a church setting e.g. sacristan, choir mistress, good news club and the parish representative. This meeting and launch will take place Wed 10^th March 8-9.30pm in Knock House Hotel.

On Sunday, March 7th, Olwyn Murray, a Leaving Certificate student in Ballyhaunis Community School will be representing the West of Ireland on the “All Ireland Talent Show”. Sing and Sway! Diocesan Youth Gospel Choir. Tuam Diocesan Youth Council is in the process of establishing a Gospel Choir. The choir, made up of young people from the ages of 16 – 23 will have monthly rehearsals and will sing at diocesan youth events. The choir will also serve as a resource for local / cluster youth initiatives. The Musical Director of the choir will be Brendan McGuiness, a third year Music and Theology student from Knock. Can you sing and sway at the same time? Join us in the Prayer Guidance Centre, Knock on Saturday January 29 from 3 – 5 pm.

The Priest’s collection for the support of the priest of the parish will be taken up at all the Christmas masses.

The Granlahan Fair Day Committee would like to wish everyone a happy Christmas. Many thanks for all your help and support over the past year with the successful Fair Day and the more recent Mr. & Mrs. Competition. Funds after costs from the Fair Day amounted to €1510. A donation of €200 has been given to Granlahan N.S., €300 towards the new Christmas lighting with €650 raised from Mr. & Mrs. Competition. The remainder to be retained for insurance and costs next year.

Youth Café. The Ballinlough / Granlahan youth café committee express sincere thanks to all who gave so generously to the carol singing fundraiser. We raised €201.14. We would also like to thank everyone involved in organising the event as well as the youth involved.

Bridge Club: The Bridge Club is resuming on Tuesday night 15^th September at 8 o’clock in Campbells Lounge, Ballinlough. All are welcome.

Stations: We hope to have the Stations in all the Station areas this October.

Coffee Morning for Hospice: The annual Coffee Mornings in aid of Hospice will be held in the following premises:

Roscara Social Housing Coffee Morning. Regina McGuire of Roscara Social Housing, Srah, Ballinlough (next of Costcutters filling station) is hosting a coffee morning in aid of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice on Thursday 17^th September from 10am-1pm approx. Come along and enjoy a cuppa in lovely surroundings. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Irish Kidney Association church gate collection taken up last weekend in Granlahan amounted to €385.33c. Thank you for your support.

National Grandparents Pilgrimage: The 3^rd Annual National Grandparents Pilgrimage will take place on Sunday Sept. 13^th at Knock Shrine. Chief celebrant is Cardinal Sean Brady. Best wishes: As the new academic year has begun in our Primary schools, we wish Mr Gerry Markham every happiness and blessing in his retirement. Defibrillator Meeting An important meeting of the Ballinlough/Granlahan defibrillator group will be held in Campbells lounge, Ballinlough on Tuesday 8^th Sept. at 9pm. As the two year training contract has expired, all members are earnestly requested to attend.

Mayo/Roscommon Hospice: A meeting of the Kiltullagh branch of Mayo/Roscommon hospice will be held in O’Connors lounge, Ballinlough on Tuesday 8^th September at 9pm. All are welcome.

The Tochar Phadraig Pilgrim Walks from Ballintubber Abbey to Croagh Patrick takes place on Saturday 29^th Aug, departing the Abbey at 8.30am. This is the last organized walk for this year.

”Nine years ago, the road of life took me to Cloonfad and Granlahan. It was the start of a memorable journey and a lovely time spent in these great communities in the parish of Kiltullagh. It was my privilege to serve as your priest during that time.
Now as I leave to take up my new appointment in Kilkerrin, I want to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all of you for the wonderful kindness and hospitality that you bestowed on me during those years. I always felt very much at home here in this rural area and will carry only the best of memories from it as I travel on.
To all associated with the recent farewell socials, I want to express my deepest appreciation.
I will miss the people of this region and will always treasure the times I shared among ye all. Cloonfad and Granlahan will ever command a treasured place in my heart. God bless you now and always.” - Fr Tom.

Active Retirement : A meeting of the Ballinlough / Granlahan Active Retirement group will be held in Michael Glaveys community centre on Wed 15th July at 3pm.

The Ballinlough-Granlahan Community Development Council wish to thank everybody who helped in any way in last weekend’s community festival. It is impossible to list each individual involved as so many people gave their time and energy to make the festival a success. This was truly a community effort and the committee wish to extend a big thank you to all that helped us.

Cloonfad Mozamba Partnership: The 6th annual walk for Mozamba that took place on May 6th raised €6068. A cheque for that amount has been sent to Fr Eamonn Aylward the project co-ordinator and will be used to assist with other projects in Mozamba. To date €43846 has been raised by our parish - well done to everyone involved.

Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus: Friday 19^th June is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. People have great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This year wehope to start the Novena of the Sacred Heart in Basllinlough and Granlahan churches. It will start on Thursday 11^th June at 8pm in both churches.

CORPUS CHRISTI: This feast is on Sunday next 14^th June. The Procession of the Blessed Sacrament will take place as usual after 11am Mass in Ballinlough and after 12 noon Mass in Granlahan.

Midsummer Mass at the Abbey: Open air Mass followed by bonfire and barbeque. This celebration of faith for young adults will take place at Ballintubber Abbey on Friday 19^th June at 10.30pm All welcome.

The 50^th International Eucharistic Congress will take place in Ireland in 2012. A collection will betaken up at all Masses on Sunday next Feast of Corpus Christi to help with the huge expenses of the occasion. (See poster)

Lough Harps FC will host a presentation evening for all players and parents of underage players on Friday 29^th May in Campbell’s Bar, Ballinlough, commencing at 8.00 pm. The club wishes to celebrate the achievement of its treble winning Under 18 team, and also the effort and achievement of all the players during the 2008 season. All are welcome.
